Undergraduate Admissions Process

After submitting your online application, check your status at gsw.edu/status   Please fill out the online application as thoroughly as possible.  When you are finished, click  the "SUMBIT" button only once.  There is a nonrefundable fee if $25. 

Freshmen Applicants (including those graduating with Dual Enrollment Credit)

Freshmen applicants are evaluated on the basis of their demonstrated academic performance in Required High School Curriculum courses, SAT/ACT test score results, and achievement of the University System requirements of a minimum 2.4 GPA in the 17 required high school curriculum units, and potential for completing the requirements for the desired degree.

Dual Enrollment Students

Dual Enrollment is available for high school students at Georgia Southwestern State University. Students must meet minimum SAT/ACT scores and have a 3.0 GPA to qualify for the program. Interested students are encouraged to speak with their high school guidance counselor for more information and to complete the application process.

Transfer Applicants

Transfer applicants with 30 or more semester hours completed will be evaluated on the basis of their academic performance and potential for completing the requirements for the desired degree. Those with less than 30 semester hours completed at their previous college or university will be required to submit a high school transcript and may also have to submit SAT/ACT scores.

Transient Applicants

Transient applicants (a student who expects to return to their college or university where they are presently enrolled) must present from the registrar of the institution (presently attending) a statement recommending admission as a transient student. Evaluation is based on review of satisfactory previous academic work and potential for completing transient term successfully.

Mature/ Nontraditional Applicants

Nontraditional applicants are individuals who have not attended college, have either graduated high school or earned a GED, and whose high school class graduated at least 5 years previously. Nontraditional applicants must submit proof of graduation or any attendance of high school by submitting an official high school transcript and/or submit proof of satisfied completion of the requirements for the General Education Development (GED) Equivalency Certificate by submitting scores and copy of certificate of completion. Applicants will also be required to meet minimum scores on the Compass test. Evaluation is based on potential for completing the requirements for the desired degree. Students may require placement in learning support courses to sharpen collegiate skills.

International Applicants

International applicants are evaluated on the basis of their demonstrated academic performance. Several submissions are required to properly evaluate academic performance in a foreign country, as well as satisfy immigration requirements.

Second Baccalaureate Degree Applicants

Students who have already earned a four-year college degree from an accredited college or university and wish to earn another bachelors degree from GSW should choose this option on the application. Evaluation will be based on past academic college-level performance.
